Power
Cal and I were talking about this the other day after seeing the infamous The Deathly Hallows Part 1.
You know the song by John Mayer called "Waiting on the World to Change?" It irks me. Like listening to it really makes me mad. He's talking about the problems in our world and basically blaming the leaders. He's saying he rest of us have to wait for the world to change. And that just makes me really mad that he's saying we can't do anything about it. I mean look how much money he has. Look how much money and power so many people we look up to have. For example, J.K. Rowling. She has absolutely captivated America and so many other countries with these 7 books. It's almost a little ridiculous yet brilliant at the same time.
People, especially famous people, shape our worlds and our thoughts. For example, so many people make sure their Friday nights are open to watch Jersey Shore (aka the most trashy show ever). We think about it, talk about it, fill our minds with it.
All that being said, people do have power. They have the power to change things. John Mayer not be able to bring all the soldiers home (a reference from his song), but you know what? I'm sure one of his paychecks could go towards stopping poverty. Or giving a bunch of towns in Africa wells for fresh water. Or provide the funds for schools so children there can grow up well-educated. So many famous and not famous people can do that.
But what does his song say? He can't. We can't. That we should wait for someone else to do it. And that makes my blood boil.
