Day 5
This morning we left the earliest - at a whopping 7:30 a.m.! Yeesh!!!
We went to another soup kitchen, but this one was much different than yesterday's... We were warned that most students prefer Bread and Life over the one we were going to, but our group much preferred it!!! We arrived as they were setting up the "kitchen" which also doubles as a "dining room" and a "pantry" AND a church! Crazy stuff. They put us to w.o.r.k. I peeled and cut carrots and I definitely worked my fingers to the BONE - I had painful blisters that were not funn afterwards! But we got to know the people we were serving with (the people who run the soup kitchen), and afterwards we got to serve the food too! It was so cool, even if I was just asking "would you like a piece of bread?" 200 times. I loved the relational part of the kitchen. And I loved that this soup kitchen felt very homey and comfortable. And I loved that the people who ran the kitchen could ask any of the people in line "hey how is so and so doing?" This group did a REALLY good job at impacting the neighborhood, and NYC on a smaller scale. A fantastic job.
Afterwards, we went to World Vision where we got to learn their vision, and just help out with random stuff in their warehouse. Specifically, I helped sort through toys, bundle 3,000 pencils, and dust. We had a great time! It was kind of sad when it was over though, because it was our last ministry we were serving at as a team while in New York.
That night, we ate El Salvadorian food, which was a lot like Mexican food. We had "papuses" I think, and they were....interesting. I think it was kind of like a quesadilla...it was melted cheese, which I'm not a fan of, but I pushed through :O)
The next morning we planned to wake up at 5:30AM, so it was an EARLY night for u.s.!!!
