"Blue Like Jazz" Quotes

I just finished reading "Blue Like Jazz" by Don Miller and man, was it a cool book! I just wanted to share with you a few of my favorite quotes. Read them if you want and just let them sink into your heart. They are just...heavy.

-"I don't think you can explain how Christian faith works either. It is a mystery. And I love this about Christian spirituality. It can't be expoained, and yet it is beautiful and true. It is something you feel, and it comes from the soul."

-"In exchange for our humility and willingness to accept the charity of God, we are given a kingdom. And a beggar's kingdom is better than a proud man's delusion."

-"I knew Christ, but I was not a practicing Christian. I had the image of a spiritual person, but I was bowing down to the golden cows of religiosity and
philosophy."

-"There's something beautiful about a billion stars held steady by a God who knows what He is doing."

-"When a relationship is right, it is no more possible to wake up and want out of the marriage than it is to wake up and stop believing in God. What is, is what is."

-"Love is both something that happens to you and something you decide upon."

-"What people believe is more important than how they look, what their skills are, or their degree of passion. Passion about nothing is like pouring gasoline in a car without wheels. It isn't going to lead anybody anywhere."

-"Andrew says it is not enough to be politically active. He says legislation will never save the world...He's a flaming liberal, really. The thing about it is, though, Andrew believes this is what Jesus wants him to do."

-"All great Christian leaders are simple thinkers."

-"I liked the idea of loving people just to love them, not to get them to come to
church."

-"Marriage is worth the trade. You lose all your freedom, but you get this friend. This incredible friend."

-"Marriage is the most beautiful thing I ever dreamed of, but it isn't everything...There are places in our lives that only God can go."

-"The soul needs to interact with other people to be healthy."

-"There is no addiction so powerful as self-addiction."

-"The first generation out of slavery invented jazz music. It is a music birthed out of freedom. And that is the closest thing I know to Christian spirituality. Everybody sings their song the way they feel it, everybody closes their eyes and lifts up their hands."
