A Dose of Humility
Friday I bragged a little on my plant care taking abilities. It had grown so large I was feeding it up to 7 cups of water a day!
Well, yesterday I was picking the dead leaves out of the soil. I was feeling a little blue because the sweet little thing hadn't grown many flowers in the past few weeks, despite my increase in its feedings! I spotted something ugly and viney in the middle, and I called Cal out to check and see if it was a weed. It was, so he pulled it out.
"Hey babe?"
"Yeah?"
"Um...these big leaves? They're not a part of the plant. Want me to pull them out?"
Turns out the big, waxy, gigantic leaves that we're taking over our porch inch-by-inch foot-by-foot was stealing water from my pretty little flowers!! I went from loving my big, huge plant to wanting those cruel, life sucking leaves outta there! So much for having a (kind) green thumb.
You may think I'm exaggerating when I tell you how many there were, so naturally I have proof.
See what I mean? My lovely plant is back to normal, and my vain, "my-plant-must-be-pleasing-to-the-eyes" self can enjoy looking at and watering this wedding present. Plus we might even save money this month on our water bill. Thanks for the lesson in humility, God.
