A Different Kind of Summer

First off, I just have to say in learning to cook...you win some, you lose some. I deeply fried burned some chicken the other day in the Crockpot. This is how much chicken I salvaged (which was still burnt, but not as bad. Put barbecue sauce on anything and you enhance its original flavor tenfold).

I can't even show you the other 80% of the chicken, as I threw it in the food disposal as quick as I could to rid my error.

This is the Crockpot...after round one of major scrubbing.

Mmmm...I bet that makes you hungry. Sorry, babe.

Summers for most people (especially college students) mean breaks, vacation time, pool time...relaxation. We used to be those kind of people. We took several beach day trips, would travel out of state to see family, etc.

This year is different for us. Cal has a new full time job, and we don't want to use his vacation days just quite yet (although we did use one for the day after the fourth of July), and I'm working full time as a manager at SAS camp. Since I'm the only manager who's there from about 3:30 to closing (around 5:45 typically), it's harder for me to get off of work - and since we're not using any vacation time for Cal, I may as well work!

We both enjoy our jobs, so it's not too bad that we're always working, it's just a different feel than summer used to have. Plus, getting used to married life is sweet enough for me! And no, our honeymoon didn't count as a summer vacation...it was in the spring ;)...ok maybe it did. And it was worth it.

Thankfully, Cal's grandparents live just close enough that we can make a weekend trip to their mountain house, and so that's just what we're doing this weekend!

Catch ya on the flipside :)
