Mr. King

I recently purchased the book 11/22/63 by Stephen King (recently as in seconds ago). To say the least, I'm thrilled to read it. In fact, I don't know why it's taken me this long to buy it!

Since 10th grade English, when I was assigned to read a book of my choice, I have loved Stephen King's writing. Although I'll be honest, he kind of scares me. In fact, I'm not totally sure I would want to meet him and talk to him. It's a weird mixture of awe and fear of his craziness! I guess you could compare it to a two year old liking clowns/people in costume on TV but screaming out of terror when they see them in person...well, maybe not that dramatic, but you get my gist :) Anyways, I don't know which came first...watching the movie or reading the book...but that year I watched and read The Shining (the movie was the TV version - I'm not a fan of the Jack Nicholson one, although I own both). He is a brilliant writer, albeit scary and slightly (or mostly?) off his rocker. I loved him even more when he endorsed Jodi Picoult's writing, calling her a brilliant author (she is also one of my favorites - read House if you get the chance!!).

And the other day, for our Fiction class, we read part of "Toolbox," where he gives tips on writing. I felt like he was speaking to me as I read that...I, Chelsea Loomis, was getting advice from one of my favorite, one of the most well known authors!!! To say the least, it was very exciting.

And now, since 11/22/63 has been deemed one of the best books of 2011, I have downloaded it onto my nook, and can't wait to see what kind of adventure Mr. King takes me on over the next few weeks (months maybe...it's apparently 900 pages....)!
