New Additions!
Happy November, friends.
I can hardly believe that it is already November. Last year from the time Cal and I got engaged to the time we got married, time went by so slowly. Since our wedding day I feel as though I've breathed about 2 times and somehow it's already November - nearly 6 months later. Please tell me as we get older time will start to slow down!
October was jam-packed with school work, assignments, work, baseball, dinners, the Fair - you name it, we did it. October might quite possibly be my favorite month and it is already gone! I tried to get Cal and I pumpkins yesterday, you know, to get into the fall/Halloween spirit - and they were gone. As if October never happened! I managed to get my hands on some Pumpkin Pie pumpkins - they are teeny but their seeds were just as tasty. I need to stock up on Pumpkin coffee before that disappears out of the stores, too.
While I have many things to fill you in on - such as our weekend trip to Ocracoke, I'll begin with the most exciting.
We have some new additions to our family... You may be thinking I'm speaking of the 4 fish we miraculously won at the fair.
Just look at how cute they were - Lancelot, Gallahan, Arthur, and Merlin. But you would be wrong. Two of them died the morning after the fair, the third died on the day after that, and somehow Arthur survived for another 4 days. I had come home from a run and he looked great - I showered and sat on the couch, and in the 30 minutes up until Cal got home, he somehow died. We were not meant to be fish people.
This sent us *cough* Cal into a pet frenzy, and days later we were searching for kittens online to adopt. Only problem is: I'm allergic. Crazy allergic. Solution? Find a hypo-allergenic cat! We found the perfect one - a cute little Russian Blue named Shark. He was only 4 months old, and the description said he was playful and cuddly. Perfect! We read on through his description and found out he had befriended a blind cat at the foster home, and they couldn't be separated.
We wondered if we were back to square 1, as going from 0 pets to 2 seemed a little crazy. Especially since one had special needs and was not hypo-allergenic. But we kept thinking about that sweet little Clarabelle and how we could never separate them. We talked to Cal's mom, and she said that two cats isn't much more work than one - and them having each other will keep them from being lonely. I think she just wanted grandkittens or something, but that convinced us! We got some Allegra, researched future steps my allergic self might need to take, and sent our application.
A few days later, their caretaker brought them to our apartment. To say we were excited would be highly understating this situation! We were so thrilled we bought all of their supplies a day before - you know - to impress the woman and convince her we were the perfect home for these sweethearts! The two sweet little kittens, then Shark and Clarabelle - now Heisenberg and Jessie - came out of their crate. They were such brave souls and explored the whole place! Neither of them hid, and they weren't afraid to be held by us. The rest is history...
Six days later, we are still so in love! They've become our children. I hate to leave and worry about them all day long, but I love their snuggles when I get home. Jessie is definitely the rascal of the two - she will try to eat our food and climb places she shouldn't before Heisenberg will. She's also usually the initiator in their little spats. Heisenberg has finally warmed up to us (he preferred to sleep under our dining chairs for the first few days as opposed to our laps) and cuddles all the time. It makes it difficult to do work! It's been fun seeing them explore new things - they've only lived in a basement and so they have never seen a TV, washer/dryer, or been in a kitchen. Here are some fun pictures of our little loves!
