More Kindergarten...

Ahh. My first (full) day in Kindergarten! Bliss. I'm in an exhausted, sleepy, blissful mood. I love Kindergarten. And not just because I'm the "new, fun" one (although that is nice - I was always the "strict" counselor at the Y), and they absolutely adore me! At least for now :)

Anyways, so many great things happened there! I've taken note of a lot of Mrs. K's strategies (who has taught K-2nd for 9 years! She's also taught in several different schools - so I would say she's pretty experienced. She does a lot of stations, and implements different techniques we've learned about in class (like popsicle sticks) and just involves all of the kids in many ways to keep them active and learning.

The kids were extremely touchy-feely - which in child development class we learned kids that age need that - and Mrs. K constantly had to remind them "Ms. Chelsea is not a piece of furniture...Ms. Chelsea is not a dog..." because wherever I would sit or stand the kids which inch towards me - kind of like a magnetic field. At one point, I had both hands held, someone clinging on my leg, and someone crawling up the back of my sweater! It was precious. I also got a lot of compliments - like..."Ms. Chelsea, you so pretty..." "Ms. Chelsea...you're hair looks like caramel..." (?) and so on. I impressed them with my math skills (100+100) and they impressed me with theirs (8+4). It turns out Mrs. K has a passion for math, which I do as well, and it relieved me that she's satisfied with Kindergarten and still has found ways to help other kids (and teachers) with math!

Well, I'm off to a boring day at the gym! I'll be dreaming of when I can have a real job teaching kids all day! Have a beautiful Thursday!
