Engaged

It happened! It really, really happened! I have to keep reminding myself that, even though Cal proposed 18 days ago! The past few weeks have gone by so quickly and it still feels too good to be true! Here's the story...

Around a week before Cal proposed, he had told me that for our 3rd anniversary he had 2 parts to our date - and the second part, a surprise, would be a week or two after our anniversary. So we went to Bonefish Grill and exchanged presents on May 30, 2012. I kept bugging him over the next few days asking when the second part would be. I suspected (and ended up being right) that we would go to The Melting Pot, since I had been "mentioning" that I would like to eventually!

The day of was the following Tuesday, on June 5th. In the afternoon, Cal had told me to bring the picture frame he had given me on our one year anniversary. He supposedly had found a game on CNN for couples to play on their anniversary. I completely fell for it, since it sounded like something he would do! So he came and picked me up at 6:15pm, all dressed up in a shirt and tie (he had warned me to dress nicely!). In my head I was thinking that this was way too obvious, and so I figured he wouldn't propose that night. We got kind of lost, but eventually made it to, you guessed it - The Melting Pot just after 7. The waitress took us through the maze-like restaurant to some private booths in the back. Cal acted really surprised, and when I asked he said that he had made the reservations online and checked the "celebrating an anniversary box" which must have been why we got the booth. I laughed, and we ordered our 4 course meal. For those who don't know, all of the courses at The Melting Pot are things you can dip in fondue.

We slowly made our way through the meal, and after cooking and eating most of our meat (it was quite the selection!), the waitress cleared the table and pulled the curtain shut. Cal asked me to get out my picture frame, and so I did. He told me to "turn it upside down," and I rotated it - I guess I thought it had to do with the game... Anyways, he laughed and told me to flip it over. I did, and proceeded to take the back off, where a card lay. He told me to open it and read it out loud, which I did, a little confused. It started out with "I'm writing this on our one year...I don't know where we've been or what we've been through, but I know you are the one for me." It was pretty lengthy, and went on saying all of these sweet romantic things. I kept telling myself not to skip ahead...that this couldn't be it, because if it wasn't I would be sorely disappointed. But lo and behold...the last line I read (in a quivering voice) was "And now there's only one thing left to do..." I looked up slowly, and Cal was pulling out a box. I whispered "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh," and teared up as he asked me through his own tears to marry him!! I think I said yes, and looked down at the ring and was blown away! He did an awesome job at picking the ring (seeing as we had never shopped for them!) and planning a little "champagne toast" with our families.

We did get our chocolate fondue course to go...but our families ate most of it...and so now we have to go back! :)

Despite the stress of trying to choose a church for our ceremony, it has been the most blissful time...now if only May 18th, 2013 would get here quicker!!!
