Prom

Besides weddings, the other thing girls dream about is their prom. The movie coming out Friday, "Prom," inspired me to write this blog post.

Why? The commercial makes it seem so dramatic, so life changing. In actuality, events in life really DON'T end up as dramatic. Like ever. But for me, my junior prom was all I had dreamed of and more. Who goes to prom dateless and come away with the love of their life? Practically nobody. But I did...and that makes the memory of prom so memorable and special to me. Let me tell you how...

So a few weeks before prom, this really cute boy in 2 of my classes started talking to me. I, being the sometimes shy girl that I am, and intimidated by how handsome he was, was not so talkative. I started getting SO nervous everyday before 4th period, because I knew this guy would try to talk to me, and I never knew how to reply! But, my quietness did not push him away, thankfully, and he kept persevering! We became friends on Facebook (which is a pretty funny story in itself...), and every night we talked on Facebook chat starting the week of AP exams. So much for studying! On the day of the AP exam we both had, Statistics, I purposely sat at an empty table with only 1 chair instead of 2. And sure enough, this guy passed my little test in showing he really liked me by pulling up a chair and sitting next to me! Needless to say my heart pounded the whole exam.

A few days later, he gave me his phone number. The next day, Friday, was prom day. I also had an AP History exam that morning, so afterwards my friend and I went to get our nails done. While there, I literally was just about to text this hottie when my phone buzzed. It was him!!! He had gotten my number through his best friend's girlfriend who was my best friend's friend (confusing, huh?!). We continually texted throughout the afternoon, but then stopped when we joined our (separate) prom groups for pictures, dinner, etc.

I was so nervous throughout dinner, and being the 7th wheel of my group (I turned down a few guys' invites to prom) made me more nervous! We eventually arrived at the hotel where prom was being held, and my crush's group wasn't there yet. I swear, nobody has felt more butterflies than I did at that moment (ok...maybe only 1 more person). All of a sudden, I hear Becca's voice across the dark, crowd-filled room "Chelsea, he's here!!!! Go see him!" More nervous than ever, I froze in my spot when all of a sudden, there he was. It truly felt like slow motion, spot light on is, walking towards each other gazing into each other's eyes.

We slow danced all night, me on his feet because he was so much taller. And the rest was history....

Even after nearly 2 years, I still feel the same way about you, Cal! I love you now and forever. :)
